On 13 June 2018 in Pristina, the Jahjaga Foundation presented the project “The Role of Media in Promoting Women’s Participation in Governance. ” The project is supported by the USAID.
This project envisages the implementation of two training sessions in areas such as advocacy and public speaking with women in leadership positions and women from municipal assemblies from three municipalities (Prizren, Shtërpcë, and Ferizaj), as well as training with journalists on gender reporting in order to increase awareness social issues for women’s role and gender stereotyping.
President Jahjaga, in her introductory speech focused on the role of women in decision-making positions, stressing the need for women to be politically represented.
Ms. Mexhide Mjaku Topalli, Chairwoman of the Women’s Deputies in the Assembly of Kosovo highlighted the advancement of gender equality as crucial for the protection of human rights and functioning of democracy, while the representatives of local women’s voice, Kristina Gashi Bytyçi – Chairperson of the Municipal Assembly of Ferizaj and Mrs.Sadije Jakupi – Head of the Women’s Nonformal Group in Prizren presented the challenges they face in the respective municipalities and the will to win the advancement of the position of women.
